Fire Door Installation in Progress

The Importance of On-site Fire Door Installations as Part of Any Fire Door Qualification Assessment.

When it comes to fire safety, there is very little room for error. Fire doors play a critical role in preventing the spread of flames and deadly smoke in a building during a fire which can make the difference between life and death for those inside. That’s why the installation of fire doors is a role that should be taken seriously and performed only by those with demonstrable qualifications.

Here at The Fire Door Academy we believe that ‘the theory’ connected to fire doors is only one aspect of a credible qualification, and yes, it can generally be undertaken through online courses though it is critical that any end-of-course examination reflects the gravitas of the product knowledge required and is not a relatively simple ‘answer 20 questions and you’re successfully qualified’.

To supplement and indeed complete a suitable theory-based qualification, it is critical that a strictly controlled site assessment of an actual witnessed fire door installation is undertaken. Without this, no fire door installation qualification can justifiably claim to be suitable and sufficient.

Here in the UK, the installation of fire doors is governed by strict regulations that must be followed to ensure their compliance and effectiveness. To be classed as suitable, it is of paramount importance that fire doors are installed correctly in every respect and no deviations from certificated fire doorsets or assemblies are permitted. Fire doors are reliable if they are installed, inspected, and maintained correctly.

The installation of fire doors is not a task to be taken lightly. Online-only courses may provide substantial theoretical knowledge but are unable to replicate the real-world challenges that so often arise when installing fire doors in a specific building. On-site practical assessment of installers is essential to ensure they understand the nuances of installation, are able to identify potential issues and know how to overcome them effectively and ensure the installation is compliant.

Our FireQual-approved two-part IFSS QUALIFICATION IN TIMBER FIRE DOOR INSTALLATION ensures our students have both the theoretical knowledge and have shown that they have the practical skills that are critical if they are to succeed as qualified fire door installers.
